felts

I've been working on some really small items recently, mainly because I'm trying to get the hang of felting wool. The items below are my first experiments with boiling wool to turn it into felt, and I have decided to go ahead and add them to the shop as small gift items. I would definitely say that these are all still highly experimental, but I think they're fun, and I'm definitely addicted to boiling wool these days (even though it makes my kitchen smell like a barn)...

features

It seems as though I've only had time for quick posts about features recently, but I promise to get around to adding lengthier posts about some new things I'm working on in the near future (maybe even later this afternoon)...

For now though, I think it's important to mention these lovely treasury and blog features:

Stephanie mentioned me on Grains of Earth last weekend.

I'm touched to be in this treasury for the cure. Visit and comment here.

See this friendly etsian's gift guide here.

See these great aviation-inspired items here.

On a side note, I love Etsy's new, wider layout for the listing pages. The pictures are bigger, and everything else looks clean and fresh. Check it out in my shop today!

photo explorer

Just came across these breathtaking images from the "Earth from Below" series by photo journalist Stephen Alvarez, and I'm reminded of my past fantasies of working as a photographer for National Geographic. It's not something that I ever really aspired to, but the thought of traveling to amazing places and making photographs like these has entered my mind more than once ...

new item preview

While spending the weekend at Griffin's farm, I was finally able to re-shoot the new items I've been talking about for weeks. Banks agreed to come and model the men's items, and Griffin helped out by taking the pictures of me in the women's scarves. I think that the farm was a perfect backdrop for these autumn accessories, and I can't wait to add the new images to the shop. New listings should be popping up all week...

inspiration: lights

It's no secret - I have always loved making lights. I still have and use the bamboo pendant lights I made for my bedroom when I was around 16 years old, and I love them just as much now as I did then. Thanks to Umbu and Pickles, I have some fresh inspiration ... I can't wait to make some new fixtures in the very near future.

pink for the cure

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is an issue that has always been close to my heart, and this year I am offering a pink crochet scarf in my store as a way to raise awareness and funds. For each pink scarf sold, I will be donating $5 to Susan G Komen for the Cure. Depending on popularity, I may keep the scarf available year-round. We'll see how it goes.

I also made a treasury featuring other breast cancer awareness items today. I think my favorites are the little girls - one in the tutu and the other in an adorable pink headband. Check it out here.

sneak peak ... and that's all you get for now

Posting a few preview shots of my new men's items below. I had hoped to list them in the shop over the next few days, but I'm not happy with the pictures that I took - I was working with very little time and light, and they're just a little too grainy for my taste. I most likely will not have time to shoot again until next weekend, so for now you will just have to be satisfied with this sneak peak...

return to crochet

Between work, Henry, and life in general, I haven't had much time to blog recently. However, I have found plenty of time to be creative, and I've made a return to the world of crocheting (low quality Blackberry picture below to illustrate). Keep an eye out over the weekend and early next week for some new items - both knit and crochet - that will be appearing in the shop, including a small collection of men's accessories and some exciting new fibers and colors.
